Oh jolly life.

Thu May 29, 2008, 8:46 AM
Love is something that I think some of us do not just get completely. Every one me meet is a optimistic pessimist. Either your glass is half full and some more or your glass and half empty and frozen. I look at todays society and I really just think about how medias influence on our ever growing materialistic world. Pressure to be the best, most beautiful, the athlete....the list goes on. (My rant of the day??)

I have been on this program "Katimavik" for about 5 months now, without many things in life that we don't need. More like every guilty pleasure you had before are cut off. It sounds exaggerated but its not far from the truth. I entered thinking I knew more then enough to get me through the program with some minor challenges. Boy was I ever wrong. My first day at rotation camp I was stuck with about 30 youth from ages 17-21. Culture shock galore. I have never been exposed to that much diversity at one time. French, English, Spanish, Czech & the list goes on. I love culture but coming from an island at that moment it was a lot to take in, considering not much sleep took place because of last minute packing from the night before. 2 bags for 8 months!!! :O

My first placement of 3 was in Kapuskasing Ontario were -20 is pretty much the norm. It was a little big town of about 9000. French indeed was in the air, snow pretty much swooped upon all that was vulnerable. My work placement was with the Kapuskasing Kiddies Korner Daycare. Project leader was Matty Shaw, a great guy with an open mind with a large ego. "Kind of a big deal" straight out from Calgary Alberta.

My second placement the one that I am on right now, Fredericton New Brunswick. Beauty in the white (snow) haunted the St.John river the first week here. After that it was pretty much the new craze since 1978. Biggest flood. Quite epic I must add. My work placement the Multi-Cultural Association of Fredericton Inc. More diversity and loving it. Hearing about 6 different languages a day is pretty much like heaven to me. I have never been in an environment where everyone is accepted. Its an amazing feeling. Project Leader Racheal Wier, ambitious & down right hilarious.

3 more weeks left here and next stop is Castlegar BC.---->Home stretch to the unknown
